How To Close Your Above-Ground Pool
1. Locate all pool winterizing supplies (Cover, Cable, Winch, Plugs, Ice Compensator or Skimmer Cover)
2. Check cover for any damage (Tears and/or separated weave)
3. Vacuum and clean pool (Leaves and dirt left in pool over winter can stain the liner)
*Remember, If you close your pool clean and keep the cover clean during the winter then you will open clean in the spring!
4. After pool is cleaned, backwash the filter (if it's a sand filter) and then add the Winterizing chemicals to the pool.
*A Winterizing kits works great. It consists of Shock, Winter Algaecide and a pH Stabilizer. These kits come in multiple sizes so make sure to purchase one big enough for your size pool.
5. After chemicals are added keep pool running for a couple of hours to allow chemicals to distribute throughout the pool. (This is not necessary but helps)
6. Remove directional/eyeball/return fitting and plug hole with threaded or rubber plug.
7. Winterize skimmer using either an Ice Compensator or a Skimmer Cover (Aquadoor or Plate)
8. Disconnect and remove all hoses.
9.
*Cartridge elements should be replaced from season to season
10. Remove ladder from pool (If you have one)
11. Cover your pool and place pump on top of the cover in the middle of the pool.
12. Keep water drained off of cover and clean off any debris that fall on it as soon as possible
Following these steps will insure that you open your pool clean and clear.
